CASE STUDY: SURFER THE BAR
The original since 1960, SURFER Magazine is best known as the “bible of the sport” and has been the foremost authority on surf culture for over a half century. Now, the most recognizable brand in action sports has become a ubiquitous presence in print, online, and through high-profile events around the world. A brick and mortar destination lets readers experience first hand what they have loved from the magazine - award-winning photography and provocative interviews with living legends - paired with film screenings, live music, food and drink.
Skip conceived of and negotiated with Surfer Magazine (The “Bible” of Surfing) the rights to open the world’s first Surfer, The Bar on Oahu’s Fabled North Shore. This mixed use venue offers a location for premium-level music performance by the likes of Jack Johnston, Donovan Frankenreiter, Michael Franti, etc as well as celebrations for events and groups. Most notable about Surfer, beyond the premium-level line-up of entertainment, is the ongoing Talk Story Series featuring an enviable collection of surfing’s legends and their tall but true tales. Surfer chooses its partners carefully, which says a lot about the character of this bar.
